World Trade Centre – Access To Cooling Tower

The project involved the design and installation of a height safety system for the routine access to cooling towers following a Cooling Tower Access Audit that highlighted inadequacies in the access to serviceable areas of the cooling towers.

A working platform was custom built to enable technicians to safely service the cooling towers. A step-type ladder leads up to the safe working platform which is surrounded by a perimeter guardrail. To ensure that the system would work effectively it was initially prefabricated in our factory, disassembled and then reassembled on-site.

This made it simple to move the lightweight components into the already constructed building, enabling two people to carry the entire platform into the building after hours and transported to the rooftop via an elevator and stairwell.

The elevated walkway was connected to the cooling towers with caged rung-type ladders installed on opposite sides to provide access to the top of the custom platform.

Guardrails were strategically placed around the hatch opening on the working platform to eliminate fall hazards to the perimeter with structural grade aluminium used to fabricate the top mounted platform.
